how do there cages look?

i posted this question a few eeks ago and since then ive changed around there cages and changed some things(like killing the lights) and i just wanted to know how things look now.

first zulu's cage:


and vanessas cage:

actually i only made zulu's. well i helped my dad make it. he's a carpenter(has been for 28 years) he's really good, all i did was design it and make holes for the vents, mounted the thermostat, put in the light fixture, put in the glass front, cut the wood(although he showed me how to do that) that sorta thing. he did the hard stuff.

I hope you never get mites...because mites love wood, and wood loves mites. Really hard to get rid of.

I hear wood also likes snake urine a lot...like absorbing every last bit of it making the cage really smell...If you are going to use wood, make sure it is completely sealed in order to avoid both of those issues.

They look good.. I'd also be worried about the wood if it isn't sealed.. so hard to disinfect.

Seems to me most snakes prefer more closed hides over the half log like you have in Vanessa's cage. The other three hides look fine.

If it's not sealed (it doesn't look it) you should take some candle wax and rub it across the bottom until you can seal it. Pretend you're waxing the bottom of a snow board and coat it for now.

on vanessas cage the bottom has that white wood that's waterproof(i dont know whats it's called) on zulus cage we put a sheet of plexiglass on the bottom so water doesnt soak through to the wood. so far i havn't had a probablem with mites. ok, i thinks that's it. thanks guys, i appreciate it.

oh and, does it look like the snakes would feel secure in those cages? you know as far as the cage being to big or particularly zulus shoebax not being a secure enough hide? i'll see what i can do for vanessa.

As long as they've got nice tight hides to cram into, they'll feel safe while still having the opportunity to roam in the middle of the night when they feel the urge to do so. They look alright to me.

I wasn't trying to knock your setup or anything, I just thought I'd point that out because I know of people who I've tried to help troubleshoot issues with mites to no avail, only to find out later they had a custom cage built out of plywood. Its just something really commonly overlooked.
