    First Boa

Hi all. Like the title says, first boa. I have had ball pythons for a long time but once I started showing the snakes at my children’s schools, preschools so on so fourth I kept getting the same thing from the kids, “do you have any BIG snakes?”

So after about 3-5 months of research I finally pulled the trigger.

Couple questions for those of you who might have both species.

1.) Of course you can’t research Boa’s without seeing topics on IBD and how lethal it is to the python species. I have a three level house and all of my BP’s are on the main level office in a rack with a double door that stays shut 60% of the time. I have put the boa set up (tub) as she is still small in an upstairs bedroom... Separate scale, mist bottles the whole 9 yards.

From what I have read this seems to be desirable as far as quarantining the animal?

Snake seems to act completely fine. No neuro symptoms to note so far. Their personality is quite different than a ball python. I’m used to having snakes hide their heads if you take a deep breath and this girl seems to want to see what’s going on when moving around her.

2.) I guess this is kind of the same as part 1... I work in safety, health and risk management so bear with me.

The breeder I bought her from had excellent reviews and I put him through about a 25 minute phone interview on his set up and keeping of animals so I’m not worried there...

I have found myself a little paranoid however about passing anything this snake might have onto my other established snakes. Just looking for a little assurance I guess. I find myself treating this animal like it has Ebola...

Any input on new babies greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Congrats on your beautiful Boa. You are going to really enjoy her.

IBD is pretty uncommon, I only considered it a remote possibility when I added my Boas.

Looks like you have things off to a good start. Enjoy
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.
