OZARK, Ark. (AP) - An amateur photographer has snapped some startling
gone-in-a-gulp images of a venomous snake devouring an unlucky bug at Ozark National Forest in Arkansas.Charlton McDaniel of Fort Smith says he was "fascinated and captivated" to see a copperhead eat a newly emerged cicada at dusk on July 17.

The 42-year-old McDaniel told The Associated Press he was in the forest
for some moonlight kayaking when he noticed a molting cicada.
McDaniel says the snake showed up, and he twice scared off the reptile.
McDaniel says he went to his vehicle and when he returned the snake grabbed the insect.
McDaniel says the copperhead became aware of his presence, finished swallowing the cicada and slithered off.

I've gotten a kick out of these photos too...had to share. I'm so used to seeing snakes gulping down rodents that it looks crazy to see them gulp down a
    huge bright green cicada, lol.

Nothing like some good Copperhead crack. I follow a Snake ID page on Facebook and this guy had a bunch of cicadas in a cooler outside of his house. He came out the next morning to 10 copperhead’s in his cooler that had already ate all the Cicada’s. I’ve always found it supper interesting to watch a snake swallow a bug. I really wanted a pet Rough Green snake because watching them eat and hunt bugs is a thrill but I could not get past the fact almost all of them are wild caught.

I've heard of bears breaking into people's coolers to get their food, but never snakes!? That's hilarious! Maybe we're missing out on some good eating?

There’s got to be a lot of protein in them I’ll say that for sure. Take the wings and legs off and I’ll consider it lol
