I can't make a choice on your options because 1. I have a Dum already and 2. Not interested at all in the other species. Did the research, seen them in person, they are either too big/heavy for me, don't want another royal or just meh.

I can tell you that Dumerils boa is a purchase I never regretted, if I were to have any regrets at all (besides the bp). Beauty, great disposition and not too big as the other boas. I may even go into breeding because there are not many Dum boa breeders out there. Those who want one always have difficulty finding one. Those who don't care or know about them may remain ignorant because the expos are flooded with the more popular ball pythons and BCC and BCI. Who wants a boa that has no morph; takes 5+ years to mature and maybe breed; and potentially be a picky eater like ball pythons? If you like that about them, don't hesitate and go for it.

Re: What to add to my collection.

If you're not planning on breeding your snakes I'd shoot for adding diversity to the collection. Out of the choices you listed I'd go with a hognose. Apart from those options I'd pick a kingsnake or carpet python.
    3.0 Carpet Pythons, 1.1 Bullsnakes
1.0 Olive Python 1.0 Scrub Python,
    1.0 BI, 0.1 BCO

Re: What to add to my collection.

Thank you for the replies. It gives me alot to think about. I know my girlfriend prefers the dumerils. She isnt too keen on having a venomous snake, even though I explained the disposition of the hognose, and their toxicity. In the end I may do a dumerils and a hog nose. My local pet shop is talking about getting in some dumerils in a few weeks. I'm going to wait until the reptile expo in october to actually pull the trigger.

Plus I have to convince the girlfriend about the hognose. I'm hoping that if I can get her to hold one that she will warm up to the idea.

If you're looking for a pet you can't go wrong with a male Dumerils boa. They don't get too big and they're docile.

Re: What to add to my collection.

Idk what you already have but so far my favorite snake species I’ve had is my BCI boa by a mile. I’d also love to add a blood, dumerils or false water cobra eventually. There are even more options for lizards which makes picking a starting place hard. My “coolest” lizard is my leachie but they definitely aren’t for everyone. I really want a northern bts eventually though. I’d check out Clint’s Reptiles on YouTube for overviews on potential options.

Right now its up to Dumerils, Hognose, or a BEL Ball. Its funny cause that was what I was leaning towards.
