Settin up for first bp temps?

I have uth and che. I have an ambient air temp or 81 on the low side. When I lift the hid up on the hot side I shoot a 92. At the bottom. Example if the snake Burroughs all the way down. Is all this proper or do I need to adjust temps?

First, and most importantly, are your heat sources regulated by a thermostat???

You want to shoot for a hot spot of 88-89.

Ambient should be 82-84 and cool side should be 88-79.

Yes I have the uth on a VE-200 and the che on a separate on off style heater. So as you said 88-89 at the bottom and 77-78 on cool side.

Yeah, the cool side temps should be around there and never below 75.

Thank you Craiga for reply. I just have one more question. I read constantly 90+ on the hot spot. From what you say thats to high. Are they talking 90+ on the probe? I have mine sandwiched between the glass and the mat underneath. My thermast is set at 92 to get an inside hot spot of 89. Is all this normal? Ps sorry for all the questions. Just want to get this right when the life of the animal in my responsibility.

As for the hot spot temp, you'll see some care sheets that say as high as 92-93. But if I had to guess, those care sheets are more than 10 years old.

I think if you were to ask experienced keepers and breeders most will tell you they keep theirs 88-89.
I know of plenty of people who don't even use belly heat. I don't use mine in the summer. I just provide a temp gradient and they're all fine.

The way your tstat and prove are set up sounds perfect. And yeah, you'll get a few degrees difference from the probe to the actual surface temps. Mine are set anywhere between 88-94 to get the actual surface temps 88-9. They're all just a little different, so it's a bit of trial and error.

That's why it so good to have the enclosure set up prior to bringing the animal home. So you're already off to a great start

And just making sure you're measuring the actual surface temps and not the substrate? Cause they can and will burrow and push the substrate out if the way.

Thank you again!! That makes a lot of sense with the care sheets being old. I measured the temp at the absolute bottom glass.
