How to decrease humidity
I use eco earth as the substrate with Forrest floor. I’d think anyone that uses eco earth would know that it’s a bit damp/moist in the bag. So when I cleaned the viv out earlier, put the stuff in and the humidity is around 80%. How can I get it down to 50 - 60?

Re: How to decrease humidity
What is the ambient humidity in your snake room?
If it's low, your humidity should drop pretty quickly. If you wanted to, you could increase the drop rate by increasing the air exchange between your viv and the room.

My snake room is my bedroom. Currently the humidity in here is 47%.

Generally with that kind of substrate it is recommended to let it dry a bit before using so it is not damp (damp substrate = scale rot). When you buy your bag, open it and put it in a large rubbermaid container so it is spread out and let it dry.

80% is fine in my experience, as long as it isn’t getting the snake itself wet, you should be ok

I’ve just got a fan & aimed it towards the viv. Don’t know if it’ll make a difference.

Re: How to decrease humidity
It's normal for cypress mulch and eco earth to be damp when it's fresh out of the bag. As mentioned above it's a good practice to let it dry a bit before putting it in the enclosure. However, even if you put it in straight from the bag, I've found that it will dry pretty quickly within a few days, and usually after one week the humidity is completely back to normal. I think it would be fine for a BP to be in 80% humidity for a few days.
