    Possible New Addition - Dumerils

So, I've been looking for an adult boa for a few weeks now and just came across an adult not far from where I live. She's about 7 yrs. old, eats F/T (2 jumbo rats) every 2.5-3 weeks, is handled at least once a week and the owner says she has never struck at him.

With that being said, is there any one here who has experience with a Dumerils? Your personal opinions on them? Would you recommend them for someone who has only 2 BPs?

    Thanks!

I have several and they are awesome snakes! They're basically big couch potatoes, though they do have a lot of strength to them.

This one sounds overfed unless those jumbo rats aren't very big. Dums are kept at lower temps - 75-85*F - and thus have slower metabolisms than ball pythons. An adult should be fine on one jumbo rat or young half pound rabbit a month.

I have one and I can pretty much echo what bcr said: really easy going snakes (except when it is feeding time, then they get a little excitable)

I also agree that it sounds like that animal might be getting overfed. Not the end of the world if you do pick her up, just realize you may have to put her on a diet to slim her down

    Awesome!

Thanks so so much for the encouraging insight. Looks like we're gonna make the drive to check her out this Saturday. It probably wouldn't have been quite as tempting if I didn't already have a new 4x2 RB set up & running. lol

Will keep y'all posted. Thanks again!

Was able to snag a few pics of her. Thoughts?

She doesn't look terribly overweight to me (as was assumed she might be) though she's not skinny either. Looks healthy 'from here'.

I've never had a Dumerils' but they're temptingly beautiful. A good choice, IMO. Is she "potty trained"? LOL (pic in bathroom)

Nice looking “Doom”. I really like this breed and wish I had one. But unfortunately I’m maxed out on workload/care taking.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

Kinda what I was thinking too.

Lawd, as much as I get crapped on by Monty it’s not looking good. Only difference is, I’ll need a bath and probably a mop after my “Doom” drops a deuce. lol

    Thanks!

Yea, I figured if I want bigger I need to get it now before I run out of real estate.

While she is not "obese" she could definitely benefit from losing a little weight. But all in all, yeah she looks pretty healthy
