    Stuck substrate in the mouth...

So my ball python decided to strike at his rat and slammed it right into its water bowl. Then dragged through out the substrate. Well he ate the rat no problem but now I can see on the lower part of his jaw a stuck piece of coco. Its jammed there and he cant seem to get it out. How do I remove that small piece of substrate? I don't want to handle it too much because it just ate. Don't want to stress it out.

    Any help?

If you give him an hour or so he will get it out. My female did that last week. A huge piece got stuck. Before I fed her I tried and tried and couldn't get it. She ate and then got it right out within the hour or so. Keep and eye on him and maybe someone else has some better advice 😉 😊

I’ve used a long pair of tweezers before but normally it just works it’s way out

Sometimes you can either dip their face into a bowl of water to encourage drinking & washing it out of his mouth, or use a water spray.

If the snake can't get it out on his own fairly fast, I'd be helping one way or another...but gently & calmly, so he doesn't regurge dinner.

Geez sorry. I forgot to repost an update. Even though this happened a while back. Eventually it went away. I kept an eye on it as long as I could. He went into his hide and next morning it was completely gone. Not sure if he swallowed the little piece after all or ended up spitting it out somehow.

    Thanks everyone

Yeah it occasionally does happen and I’ve done that very thing .. it’s easy with Royals as they’re so docile and slow moving ... not to be attempted with King snakes or Retics unless you are wearing suitable attire ..
