Question 2 year old male only 300 grams?

I recently got a male ball python that was two years old but was only 300 grams! After two feedings with me of weaned rats, I weighed him again after he shed and pooped and he weighed 390 grams, that’s a massive increase in weight and I’m just wondering if this is normal for an underweight snake? Also any advice on getting him up to weight would be appreciated as this is my first time dealing with an underweight snake, thanks.

I would just stick to an appropriately sized prey item every seven days. You don't want to over feed to "catch up". He'll be fine with just a proper diet moving forward.

Thanks on the advice, I’ll feed him weekly and hopefully get him up to a healthy weight.

Might have been a picky eater.
I have a couple females I had high hopes for that are 3 years old and right at 600g.

I don’t think he’s a picky eater because he has an amazing feeding response. I think his previous owner was just underfeeding him for whatever reason.

Sounds like it was good you guys found one another Now that you got him, I won't worry about the weight. If he is eating great for ya and the meals are the appropriate size (which it sounds like with weened rats at that weight), he'll be alright. Sorta sounds like he was underfed, but at this point the past doesn't matter. Good luck and I'm sure he will put on some weight for ya.
