Re: Swiper needed attention.
Yup, he is so great with my daughter it is unbelievable. I had one before him which died of Bone Cancer in the hips, when my daughter was only a year old she fell on him and you could see him wince up. I jumped up and grabbed her off him and he just looked up, got up, and moved like nothing happened. They are one of the best dogs ever. I never have to worry about working late with him! Swiper won't let anyone in the door when I'm not home and my girl and daughter are home alone. No one. Kind of difficult at times, but worth it.

Jim he's gorgeous! I bet he wins at tug-o-war LOL.
Just like a lot of breeds, it's what you do with them and how well they are socialized and obedience trained that make all the difference in the world. Glad he's such a wonderful family dog.

Re: Swiper needed attention.
Thank you. I can't be prouder of him. The kids from last night were scared of him as they trick or treated, but they all left with smiles after he licked them to death. Every kid seemed to be about head level with that tongue. Lmao. Funniest thing in the world.

Re: Swiper needed attention.
He's really nice looking! That's cool that he plays fetch with you; my friend's rottie just looks at me like I am an idiot if I throw a ball his way
One thing I should say though; it might not just be with rotties; maybe any breed of dog, this could happen. Someone we knew of, had a rottie, and they were letting it chase after them as they rode their ATVs all over. Well, they noticed that the dog had disappeared; they found him dead on the side of the trail. I guess he didn't know enough to stop running when his body was tired, and ran himself to death. Not that this is a rottie-only thing; I have seen aussies and other dogs who are on the verge of exhaustion, who would play for hours more! Just a thought, this topic being about rots and all

Re: Swiper needed attention.
Oh yeah, Rots are just as bad as any other dog at that. It's their size that makes it that much easier to over exhaust themselves. Golden Retrievers are also well known for this. I have had to stop him before when he goes to hard. Speaking of ATVs...mine also chases ours around. I have a 4x4 Prarie '02 that tops out at about 35-40mph. From a dead stop to go he can beat it across the yard. He loves that game.
