    Feeding while in shed?

So my BP has been in shed (I think) for 4 days. I say that because she hasn't left her hide in 4 days as far as I can tell. A few days before that I noticed the blue tint. And when shining a the edge of a flashlight over the opening of her hide her colors seem faded. So feeding day was 3 days ago, should I try to feed? After 4 days I would think that shes about to shed any moment, should I just wait?

    Re: Feeding while in shed?

My snake won't eat mid-shed so my advice would be to wait until your snake is exhibiting some signs of being hungry, such as moving around more.

Just wait...snakes in the wild don't feed during this time, & most snakes in captivity eat more than they should anyway. If you offer food, he'll likely refuse
anyway, just wasting your time & his food. He's not starving, lol...this is how snakes function, by not eating all the time, and certainly they don't keep on a
    feeding schedule either.

    Feeding while in shed?

My snakes look so miserable while in shed and act like they don’t want to be bothered. So I just leave them alone. I offer food a day of two after shed if it fits into their feeding schedule.

Now there are some members here that have snakes that will eat during shed.

No one way is wrong. Just do what you feel is best and works for you.

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

I agree with all the above, even though some keepers do feed and certain snakes will eat during shed. I personally do not even offer during shed, and like to wait a day or two after before I offer. Personal experience, I‘ve had a high refusal if trying to feed immediately after or during the day of shed, to “keep on schedule “. Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I’m just lucky I guess. Mine have yet to refuse a meal in shead or not. But I do not over feed them. I feel like a lot of people over feed their snakes in this hobby. Not saying here, but in general.

    Here's what I do...

I'll offer each new snake one time while they're in shed. So whenever they're shed and feeding schedule cross over the first time I offer.

If the snake eats I continue to feed that snake in shed. If they don't I offer the day after they shed.

So far, my Kingsnake is the only one who eats in shed.

I used to feed Crowley while he was in shed mode when he was young and he would eat most of the time. Now that he's an adult and doesn't need to eat as often I don't bother feeding him while in shed. I just feed him a couple days after his shed so that he has time to get his stretches out before feeding and confining to his enclosure. Like stated above, snakes don't need to eat on schedule all the time as in captivity they are fed very well to begin with and it's probably best to leave them alone during their shed period.

Mine eat, shed or not. I have never had them refuse, so I don't change their schedules due to shed. If they ever start refusing I will stop offering during shed. It definitely won't hurt them to skip a meal.
