I cleaned my ball pythons enclosure and she’s acting really weird now.
So I just did a complete tear down and cleaning of scylla’s cage. She’s been acting a little weird since I put her back in though. She’s been cruising around her tank trying to burrow down into the substrate.
shes never ever done this before so I’m a little worried. She’s also breathing heavy, I can’t hear her breathing or anything but her belly is definitely moving a lot more. Temps are stable. Humidity is a little higher than usual (90) just because of the fresh substrate but it’s going down pretty quick. Any incite appreciated. She now completely burrowed and cane out behind her hide. Her muscles are also kind of quivering a little near her head. Maybe from her trying to get through the substrate?

What did you clean with? If a chemical gas (alcohol/bleach--chlorine) is evaporating into the air the snake will try and get below it.

Water and reptile safe spray that I let dry before introducing the substrate. The items I cleaned with hot water and a tiny drop of dawn soap in the sink and rinsed well with hot water and dried before putting them back in the enclosure. She’s been flicking her tongue like she’s fine but this isn’t like her.
edit: she just came up to the glass door and I opened it slightly to see if she wanted to come out and she turned around and slithered toward the back of the tank so idk. Could it just be she’s playing and getting exercise? Lol

She just went into this hide now so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.

Just guessing but the cage probably smells different right now...& not "like home". Give it a little time, she's just scared at the moment.

She seems settled in that hide at the moment, which is funny because I’ve NEVER seen her in this particular hide before lol
I’ll keep an eye on her. I’m probably just paranoid because I love her so much.

They are very sensitive to change-- I have one that gets very bitey and aggressive if you change up anything in her cage. It sounds like you did everything right with cleaning.
2 BP's, one ratsnake, 2 dogs, 3 cats, 2 small caged birds, 7 chickens, and a toddler in a pear tree

Thanks! I think so too she’s pretty quirky but this was a little out of the ordinary. She’s been in her hide all day so far and now poking her head out like she’s hungry lol

When I clean Crowleys enclosure he seems to have to check every inch of the tank once I'm done and he's put back. Maybe he's making sure I did a good job or maybe he's looking for an escape route I may have missed, who knows. He is fine after his little inspection.
