Depends the goal it to provide proper temps of 80 on the cool side and 88/90 on the warm side so the main question is what is the ambient temp of your house and will you need supplemental heat to achieve 80 on the cool side?

They do not need a basking bulb. As long as proper temps are provided via a uth. Depending on the temps in the room you may need an additional heat source though.
My hognose is in a 10 gallon with a heat mat and heat lamp. Both on thermostats. During warm weather months the bulb hardly runs. Winter its on almost 24/7.
