Short-tailed Python - Enclosure/Heating Recommendations

Ok, at this point I am very seriously considering a Sumatran Short-Tailed Python as my next addition, but I have a few questions I would like to throw out there while I'm still in the research and prep phase...

Obviously, these guys will need a PVC enclosure, I am thinking 4x2, would you guys recommend 12" or 15", given the overall girth at full size? Which leads to my next question, is it safe to use an RHP with such a stocky snake, or would a UTH be a better option for short-tails? My biggest concern with the UTH is that they don't really do much for ambient temps, and while I realize that the heat requirements are only 80-82ish, I keep my house about 75, so I kinda felt like an RHP would provide a more reliable ambient temp.

Short tails are awesome animals. My borneo boy is a complete sweetheart. He'll give a tiny hiss every once in a while when i reach in to grab him, but chill as can be once ive got my hand on him.

Anyway, my boy is in pvc with a uth and heat lamp. He's such an easy snake.

But I cant imagine an RHP being a problem. Are you concerned about your snake being girthy enough that the RHP would be too close?

Any which way, I'd opt for the 15" no doubt.

Yeah, I was worried about him getting thick enough to easily sit in a way where he could actually press against the RHP. But your right, I think with the 15" enclosure, even if he got to be 7" in diameter, he would still be 6" away from the RHP. Just adjust the settings on the thermostat and all should be well.
