Finally got my first clutch this year

I've been getting really impatient seeing my friends and people here all getting clutches but now I can finally join the club lol.

First clutch of the year came last night, ghi het desert ghost x super cinny. Hoping I get lucky with my hold back ghi cinny and I get a het DG but it will be a while before I need to worry about that.

8 healthy eggs, no slugs. Not bad for her first clutch.

Oh man, you just got my head spinning! Lol, I didn't even consider pairing siblings, that's a heck of an idea! The only down side is I'd need to get double lucky haha and I wouldn't be able to prove either out if I don't get any visuals. I guess the first step would be to prove out the Male with one of my visual females and if he proves out then I could test my luck with his sister the next year. I'm hoping to get another clutch soon that could produce visual pastel ghi DG so I should have my hands full of pairings to figure out

I candled them last night and the two roll outs had much less veins than the rest, one almost none. It also had a dark oval shadow on the one side that I've never noticed candling any of my other eggs before, I wonder if it could be settlement?

So anyway, I may be down to only six or seven. I left them in there just in case but I'd say at least the one is not going to make it. It's too bad because they all look perfect.

I find it amazing that the momma is able to tell the ones with less chance of surviving so they abandon them and just focus their energy on only incubating the perfect ones. I wonder how they know, nature really is amazing.

That is the major problem with breeding “possible hets”, it’s a total crapshoot/ long odds lottery and the math is not in your favor. It’s best to just breed 100% hets, or breed a “possible het” because you want the co-dominant genes anyway regardless of wether the recessive gene is present. That way if both parents are hets, it’s a surprise bonus, even if highly unlikely.

Or if you are really intent on testing there genes, you have to breed a possible het to a visual recessive to see what happens, but I personally would not waste the energy when I can just get a 100% het or visual to start with.
