New Addition - 2018 Hypo Bredli

Oz has officially been with me a week! He’s eaten, pooped, and passed urates. I’ve kept handling to a minimum thus far but I will begin increasing the frequency and/or duration a bit now that I feel he is getting settled.

I absolutely love his curious personality. He will stretch his body straight toward the top of my head to try to climb me like a tree He is very different in demeanor from any other snake I have previously kept. He is not necessarily defensive, but he is a little jumpy if I make sudden movements, and in general he seems to be more prone to speedy slithering than my laid-back ball pythons and boas have been; however, I have no doubt he will grow out of that as he continues to acclimate to his setup and gains size. I’ve begun hook training him by gently stroking him with a small snake hook before I get him out for handling or cage maintenance.

Definitely looking forward to expanding my collection with more Morelia in the future.

Getting comfortable enough with Oz to let go of him for a bit and allow him to explore. Was really cool to see how nimble he was while climbing. WAY different from my ball python, who now seems uncoordinated and fat

Sorry for the picture overload. I love taking shots of him!

Re: New Addition - 2018 Hypo Bredli

I thought some of you might be interested in seeing his current set-up.

He’s in a VE 108-23 tub with two small Reptile Basics hides, plastic foliage to provide extra cover, a ceramic water dish, and a 3D printed perch from Specialty Enclosure Designs. The substrate is a recycled paper liner from cageliners.net.

He spends most of his time resting on the perch, and generally only uses his hides the day after he eats. Depending on how fast he grows I expect this will be his enclosure for at least 6 months or so, then I plan to upgrade him to a 56qt tub that is 12” high so he can have more room to seek elevated areas. Eventually he will have a large PVC cage; either 4x2x3 or 6x2x3 depending on how big he ends up getting.

Gorgeous Hypo Bredli and a sweet looking setup. Everything he needs. I really like that perch. Very nice outdoor pics too. You just can't beat Morelia.

The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.

    Thanks!

Here’s Oz in his favorite hangout spot. He is looking a little chunky because he ate on Monday night.
