    Weight Gain

Approximately how many grams do ball pythons gain per feeding? I have one that gained 15g in 4 days. Another that gained 13g in 3 weeks. And another that gained 10g in 6 days. This is all a couple days after feeding. The batteries in my scale are new, FYI. So is that typical? Just wondered since the weights vary with the number of days since I weighed last.

Weight fluctuates so much with feeding, drinking, defecating and passing urates. I only really record weights after sheds as that is usually when my snakes are at their emptiest.

    Re: Weight Gain

I used to be pretty meticulous about weighing frequently. Now I just go by body condition most of the time and weigh maybe every few months. There's no set or predictable amount of weight a snake will gain. Too many variables.

    Re: Weight Gain

Yeah, weighing after a feed is the worst time for consistency or accuracy. Prey size varies as does digestion time and how much they may have peed or pooped. Day before a feed is better as they're done digesting and may have pooped too, but if there wasn't a poop that week it will be an inflated measurement which is something to keep in mind.

I pretty much only weigh for records purposes when I find a poop and it looks like they're "empty". Sometimes at sheds, though most of mine don't bother pooping after a shed and do that whenever, so that isn't often the empty weight for me.
