    Chlorhexidine Question

So the F10SC I ordered hasn't made it here yet, and I need to get this tank cleaned. I found what lists as 2% chlorhexidine gluconate solution at my local Tractor Supply. Not sure what the rules are on linking outside, but if you Google "Durvet Chlorhexidine Tractor Supply", it will come up.

Just wondering if this product would be appropriate to disinfect my tank and decorations, and if so, would it need to be further diluted, heavily rinsed, etc. Thank you in advance!

    Re: Chlorhexidine Question

Someone else will come in with more info but I believe this is one of the recommended products for cleaning. And yes it does need to be diluted further. Search the forum for it and you will find lots of posts. Can't remember the dilation rate but it's not much to a lot of water. Something like a cap full to a 20oz spray bottle.

It's perfect...actually it's even the brand I'm currently using, lol. Dilution is about a tsp. to a gallon, or what I do is go by the faint blue color when adding to my
spray bottle of water. (I've been using it for many years now.) Works fine, no rinsing off needed after wipe-down...just needs to be dry. No odor, good stuff!
Personally, & for my needs, I prefer it to F10. (& also it's way cheaper, if that matters- F10 is the newer product, but unless you have big operation, like breeding & getting new animals all the time, it's over-kill, IMO)

Much appreciated, I will pick some of this up today. My Herpstat 2 finally showed up, so I'm planning on tearing everything down for deep cleaning, then rebuilding with the Herpstat probes installed between the glass and the UTH, and under a CHE, rather than the red lamp I have been using. I don't like the "on/off" type of thermostat I started with. Going to replace the foil covering the top with acrylic panels also, much easier to clean. One of these days I will get some pictures of all of this posted so I can get a full critique.
