    feeding schedule

so i have small rats that i ordered for pretzel but they are a little smaller than i expected them to be, and i’m concerned that one a week is not enough. can you feed them every five days? or is that not enough time for them to fully digest a rat or something? i don’t want to waste the feeders as i have almost a years supply

    Re: feeding schedule

What's the size of the rat compared to the size of the snake? Personally I would not feed an adult or sub-adult more frequently than every 7 days. Our largest BP is just about 1000 grams and has been eating smaller rats than she probably should be getting weekly (because of similar reasons to yours, the feeders I got were all on the small end of "small"). She's gaining weight and growing just fine.

Unless they are tiny it’s ok for them. They don’t let the smaller rats run by so they can get the one that’s 10-15% of their body weight.

Continue to offer one per week. If you have an adult male his growth is going to slow down anyway and even though the feeders are on the small side you may find that he intermittently fasts despite the smaller meals.

Continue to offer once a week. Most males never need anything larger than that.

If he's old enough to be eating smalls his growth rate will be slowing anyway. No need to offer more often.
It likely won't be long before every 7-10 days is plenty.

My adult male eats a small every 10 days or so.
