    Is my tub tall enough?

Hi mates ! First let me say that though I'm not a massive fan of these very small bins SOME breeders use in racks, I really like plastic tubs themselves, providing that they are big enough for the snake you house. I've found that humidity is very easy to control, it's very easy to heat properly with a UTH and quite frankly my ball python seems to enjoy the safety of the tub to some degree. This being said I'm still rather new to ball pythons and my question is as follow. I've found a good tub that I like to upgrade my snake, it is 30 inches long 19 inches wide and my girl herself is about 30 inches long as well. I figured this new enclosure would be good for her until she reaches about 3 to 3.5 feet (what do you think?) the only problem is that the tub is only 4.7 inches high and I'm afraid this will not be enough for an adult ball python. Do you think a 4.7 inches high plastic tub is enough for an adult snake?

Thank you in advance for your answers ^^

    Not in my opinion.
Maybe it would ‘survive’ if the temps and conditions were correct .

Hello. You're definitely going to get mixed thoughts on this, as tubs vs tanks vs display enclosures is always a hot-button topic.
For what it's worth : the Animal Plastics CB70 tubs are probably the most common in the hobby and those have a height of 5 1/4". So, I don't think your snake would miss the 1/2" considering BPs are a primarily terrestrial species.

yeah I kind of knew I was gonna get mixed thoughts on the matter. I need enough data on all sides of the issue to be able to make a somewhat educated decision that will be my own. Thanks for your answers ^^

Re: Is my tub tall enough?

I personally am a believer in display cages with plenty of room for them to move around, including verticle space...if nothing else I can add shelves or branches. That said, I’m currently quarantining two subadult bps in tubs measuring 17”W x 23”L x 6”H. They are terrestrial creatures for the most part, so I don’t think the additional 1.5” reduction in height from what I use will make that much difference. As long as she can hide, drink water, and thermoregulate, she should be fine. If you see pushing behavior or nose rubbing, you might need to reconsider.

The days leading up to feed day my balls roam around the cage and climb on the branches and everything. So I think it’s not a bad idea to have a little room for them to roam around in. But in no way am I saying it’s bad for their health
