Has your snake ever had a respiratory infection? Poll

Out of curiosity, has your snake ever had a respiratory infection? (If so how did you treat it?)

Re: Has your snake ever had a respiratory infection? Poll

I made the mistake of slightly lowering my temps in winter, out of many ball pythons: my oldest (he was a retired breeder when I got him) was the only snake to develop a respiratory infection. Took him to the vet, got injectable antibiotics-did nothing--his infection spread to his sinuses--another injection of a different antibiotic-did nothing-sinuses got worse--massive swelling. Vet strongly recommended euthanasia. I told the Vet I would give him a bit more time (as antibiotics do nothing beneficial for a viral infection). He did fight the infection off after 6 months, he looks and sounds pretty rough (due to scarring) and for sure you won't be seeing any glamour photos of him, but, the infection was about 11 years ago.

No (knock on wood). I try to keep my snakes as stress free as possible and maintain the same temps year round. I don't have the desire or reason to go tampering with the temps and risk an illness.

Re: Has your snake ever had a respiratory infection? Poll

I had an incident this fall when a door to my house was accidentally left open. Naturally, it was in the room where I housed my BP at the time. A few days later she was whistling. I bumped her temps up and her symptoms went away. If the symptoms had persisted I would have sought veterinary attention but luckily I caught it soon enough that she was able to fight it off on her own. She has been fine ever since and I haven’t observed any concerning behavior for nearly 4 months now.

Yes, one (of MANY snakes) did, a BP that was newly-shipped to me. Not surprisingly, the source didn't want it back & shipped me a replacement. I don't recall
all the specifics of vet treatment now, it's been a few decades, lol.

Only once, very minor. During a move, the cold side of the cage got a little too cold, and I heard some wheezing type noises. Was all prepared to make a vet appointment, but because it was so minor, all it took was bumping up the heat.

I sure hope your snake(s) didn't catch them from you?
