Special or normal
I bought him as a special when he was a hatchling. Just wondering if he actually is. I've never really worked with specials and was just trying to figure it out. Thanks in advance.

Re: Special or normal
Let's wait for the experts to give their input because I'm not very good at identifying the very fancy morphs. But I can tell you that it's definitely not a normal, and I'm going to venture a guess that it's a Mojave?
OK now I'm doubting myself. I guessed Mojave because I see more key holes then alien faces. I hope someone who knows what they're doing answers soon. Haha

Re: Special or normal
I may be wrong, not much experience identifying morphs, but looks like a normal to me

I thought Special was a marketing term? Petsmart calls their Normal BPs Special. Is it a real morph?

Re: Special or normal
I was looking to buy a genetic 'Special' ball python a few years ago. My criteria was: a Mojave-like pattern, a slight yellow tinge to coloration, and foggy white blushing (to a varying extent) coming up from the belly.
I talked with breeders at expos and they swore up and down that their snakes had Special and insisted they were accurate because they had produced visible Crystals (Mojave/Special), however, I didn't see the tinge of color or the blushing and thus I could not distinguish them from a normal with a Mojave-like pattern. The project was a no-go for me.
Their 'Specials' looked like the one pictured.

Re: Special or normal
If you want to see that special is a legitimate morph, look at super specials. Dramatically different. I recently bought a snake with special as it can do some interesting things in combos.
I am not an expert on them, but based on the pattern, I would say that it is a special you have.
If you bought it from a reputable breeder, I would not doubt it.

yes, "Special" is a real morph: http://www.worldofballpythons.com/morphs/special and the Super Specials are quite dramatic: http://www.worldofballpythons.com/morphs/super-special in short, those big box pet stores will call all non-normal BP's (and snakes) "Special" or "Fancy" b/c they don't know the morph name or have the employees who can ID them. so it has become a general term for their shipment of various Pastel's, Banana's, Pied's, etc. they have on display and sale.

sounds like u were describing and looking for a Mystic/Phantom. Specials are visually closer to Mocha's and Russo's in this complex.

^ i agree w/ this. that's not a Normal, not a Mojave, prob. a Special. if u trust your breeder/vendor, there's no reason to doubt it. sometimes a morph looks quite normal until u mix it with another gene or make a Super.

I believe they call anything but a normal BP a "fancy ball python"
