My snake isn't eating and possible retained eye caps?

Hey guys, I'm pretty new on here because I really need some help with a few things...

1. My lil boy Gizmo hasn't eaten since mid December (2 months) and I'm really worried since this is my first time owning a snake! Is this normal python behavior because it's winter or just hunger strike? I got him in May 2018 so I don't know if he did it last winter or not.
He's been losing weight, but not an excessive amount. Here's what he looks like now:

He still is a healthy weight and the Reptile Centre that I got him from just says to wait it out and keep trying, but I'd just like some more opinions.


2. I'm not really sure but I think he might have some retained eye caps? He has those weird crack-looking things on both eyes. If these are eye caps, should I just wait until he next sheds and hope that they come off along with it? If not, are there any at-home remedies that I could use to get them off? None of my local vets will even agree to see reptiles and the only herp specialist is an hour and half away and the consultation alone costs nearly £150!


Also he seems to have a little dry patch on his nose that looks like shattered glass. He's had that since before I got him. Is that notmal as well?

Oh! And for those who are wondering... He's in a 40 gallon long tank, hot side averaging 90F and cool side averaging 79F. He's got a hide box on each side and bedding is orchid bark (I'm really struggling to keep the humidity up in his viv) along with spraying water 2-3 times a day to keep the humidity around 55%.

Put soaked moss in the hide and a water bowl on the hot side. This should help with humidity and shedding. Also mist with warm water until your substrate is moist. As for feeding I would refrain from handling him until he eats. Make sure the mouse is warm and preferably dry, some snakes will refuse if the mouse is damp/wet. Also next time you feed, feed him in the tank. Sometimes they take food better if they’re secure like in their hide. If he rejects it leave it in the tank overnight and you might get lucky.

After trying the above mentioned suggestions ... if all else fails ...

You can soak it for 30 mins in a secure container - stay with it .

Then have a very damp , rough textured bath towel ready ..
After the soak wrap him up in the towel and let him slither around in there for a while .. keep covering him up with the towel when his head keeps popping out ..... all the time keep applying very gentle pressure on him and pay special attention to the head region - remember only apply very , very gentle pressure..

The eye caps will usually have been gently wiped off on the towel.. any stuck on skin will also have come off

Get a humidifier-fogger and a timer. Sod all that spraying.
