    Is this normal?

He has 2 hides, ambient is 88/78. Hot spot is 90, humidity runs between 60-75. Sometimes it dips to 50%. When I put him back in his home he always burrows back under his water bowl. He comes out and eats and then heads back under the water bowl. The temperature under his water bowl is 85. I took the surface temp when I took him out. Find it strange he would rather be under his water bowl than in his hide.

Not really shocking...snakes love to feel "back pressure"...wedged into a hiding place makes them feel safe from predators. If the hides are too big for now
you can just wad up some paper & stuff it in to make it more appealing (snake-style). Sometimes snakes also like the cooler feeling around or under a water
bowl, but it's most likely about feeling "snug".

If the ambient is 88/78 well, 88 is too hot. Ambient should really be no higher than 82 if you're offering a hot spot. It sounds like he's going under the water bowl to cool off.

He always used the hides until I changed the substrate. I switched from coconut to forest floor with moss in the middle to help keep in humidity.

Sometimes snakes have their own opinions...& trust me, they didn't "read the manual".

Well, I put Tapatalk with this forum pulled up on the iPad. Set it in front of the tank so he could see it. Maybe the manual hasn’t set in yet?
