Need a creature for this enclosure!

So months ago I ordered a custom enclosure built for Neptune from High Scales Reptiles. Long story short, there were many delays and hiccups along the way, but High Scales went out of their way to make it right. I’m beyond happy with the finished product.

As a show of appreciation for my patience throughout, High Scales gave me (free!) this enclosure:

This is a 24”L x 16”D x 12”H Double Refined MDF enclosure. I have to assemble it, but as it’s tongue & groove I just need wood glue and an interior sealant.

Is this an enclosure I would have purchased ever? No, probably not. I really wanted a boa for my next snake and any species will be far too big for this.

BUT, free is free and I’m determined to use it! Leaning on my friends here for recommendations of what would be happy in in this enclosure.

    Hoggie???

Any baby snake would go well in there. If you want it as a forever home ETB, hoggie, leopard gecko.

I was actually thinking hoggie too! Garter snakes could also be an option. Also that's pretty cool of them to give you a free cage as compensation!

A female hognose would do well in there once she's big enough

I know, right! I wasn't even upset with them, or demanding. I happily dealt with the owner throughout the issues. So he didn't have to appease me or anything. He just did it out of appreciation - totally cool!

Is there much difference, other than size, between male/female hoggies? I would be leaning toward female for the size, too. Just never dealt with a female reptile before...are there complications with eggs?

Omg I'll be so jelly (in a good way) if you do! I will eagerly wait for photos if you do get one! Sadly I don't think I can ever get one because I'm prone to allergies and I even get rashes and swells from a ball python bite <_< Just my luck haha! What morph would you want??

This opens up a whoooooole new world to me. I was never thinking hoggie, it's been boa - boa - boa for forever. I don't even know all the morph options yet. And i'm just learning there's even a tri-color?? Wow! I may even take on an adult, maybe a retired breeder or someone's holdback or something. One with some establishment and size already. Who knows?! An entirely new obsession to get into!

Garter snakes would be awesome, since you can totally keep two or three in there!

Size and eating are the two major differences. Females are known to be better eaters out of the gate and less prone to random food strikes. My boy, Cosmo is currently on a strike.
You certainly could put a male in there, it's just have to be an adult or it would take time for him to get big enough to be comfortable in there.
