    The Dark Boy

Greetings everyone, so I have a rescue. I have always thought him to be Normal het Pied. He has the tracks for het Pied, but that is not the problem, I will do some proving out tests this coming season. My problem is that he is very dark. Is there another gene at play here, or is he just a very dark normal. I give two pics, one with flash and one without.

    Good observation.

Yes, the camera has a tough time capturing it.

I noticed the same thing in single gene Het Pied ball pythons. I've found that my morph combos tend to lose that very dark color as the pigment gets redistributed.

So it is possible to say that he has two Pied markers. Railroad Tracks and the dark colour. Now to see if he proves out, pairing him with a Pastel het Pied girl. Will see if I get any Pied babies.

i see from your signature that u don't have any visual Pieds or proven het Pieds, otherwise u would not call them poss or 66%. het Pied x het Pied is still only a 25% chance per egg of a visual. if no Pieds pop out, will u rule both of them out being hets? i really think u need a visual Pied in your plans to breed with if u can get one.

i really do hope they prove out for u tho. i love that u are in South Africa and i hope the the hobby and community grows for u guys.
    RIP Mamba

I think that is the fun part of the hobby, proving out hets. When you cross x with y you have an idea of what you are going to get. But crossing to possible hets makes you go stir crazy waiting for the eggs to hatch, just to see if they prove out.

    Re: The Dark Boy

I have a friend who has two het Pieds, unproven until the first time he paired thrm up. The result was awesome, 3 out of 5 eggs hatched as visual Pieds.
