    Acrylic paint?

So I'm currently preparing for the new snake and I decided to go with tupperware hides from the getgo this time, I bought two appropriately sized containers for a hatchling corn, cut holes and painted the outside black with acrylic paint (they were originally clear). But now after the fact I'm wondering if that's okay? The bottle said it was nontoxic but could it flake off or somehow do some other sort of damage? I have no issue buying new ones and painting them with something else, I'm just so paranoid about this stuff lol

As long as it's water-based acrylic paint and it says non-toxic then you're fine!

Personally to avoid flaking I'd use a sealant that is also water based, non-toxic/low voc and at the very least water resistant. Waterproof is of course ideal but water resistant will be fine for quick cleans/rinsing as long as you're not soaking it.

Thank you for the reply! That makes me feel better lol.
What kind of sealant do you recommend? It's too cold here for anything spray-based, is there anything I could brush on?

Absolutely! There are two I usually recommend.

    Minwax polycrylic protective finish

    and

    AgraLife Kennel Seal

    https://www.amazon.com/AgraLife-TriC...seal+non+toxic

Both are water resistant but I personally find Kennel Seal seems more durable than Minwax.

If you ever want to expand to larger projects I also recommend #50 Shield's All, which is waterproof. I got myself a gallon to use on my current project so I still have to see how it compares but I've seen it highly regarded.

Aaa great, thank you so much! I think I'll try the Minwax. I've got a few weeks until I get the new snake, how long does it take to dry completely (or until the smell is gone)?

24 hours for it to fully dry (and you apply another layer of you wish) but to be safe I prefer to wait 48 hours to make sure all smell is gone.
