    New owner freaking!

I'm a new owner of a female pastel ball python. She was hatched 10/2018. I think she is shedding but not sure. Last night she was digging under her half log and I noticed skin hanging under her chin. She was out when I went to bed, got up and she is her hiding place.

It happens now and again. Just relax a bit. After her next feeding wait a day or so and then check her out.

Not to disagree, but you might want to check her sooner rather than later.

They need to get all the shed off, and sometimes if humidity isn't right a little bit can be left on the tail. You want to get that off ASAP as it can dry, shrink and cut off blood flow. Easy to address though, a warm paper towel and a gentle touch can fix it right up.

Also, they tend to poop after they shed, so you may have some clean up to do as well.

Have you seen any signs that she was going into shed?

    Re: New owner freaking!

Her eyes were cloudy, but last night she wasn't. This morning when I checked she is wrinkled and dull all over. The humidity is at 70, I have moss in her hiding place and repti bark and Aspen for the tank.

I have a pic but dont know how to attach!

Post a pic. She should be dull, but wrinkled? That may not be good, but maybe I'm misinterpreting. I do that a lot. You can upload a pic to the gallery and then post the pic on this thread. That's how I do it. Let me find the link to the instructions.....

When a snake is about to shed, it looks wrinkled. It should be wrinkled from side to side, not parallel (skin hanging) which means it had lost a lot of weight. It sounds like your snake is going into shed. The shedding process can take from the time the eyes go blue plus 3-7 days to start the actually shed and complete it in about a week. The younger your baby is, the more it will shed, and I find in shorter time too.

Aspen is no go when mixed with anything with moisture. They mold very easily. You can create a humid hide for your snake to go in when he wants to. If you are using a glass tank, I recommend going eco earth or other humidity loving substrate over aspen. I use aspen in my tubs for my bp and boa to balance out the humidity it maintains on its own inside the tub.

Provide something to rub against, like a small brick. You can pick those up for less than a dollar at your local hardware store. Or more bark.

Please do not peel the skin no matter how tempted you are. Please do not bathe your snake yet. Be patient. After your snake finished shedding, look for anything stuck by checking the shed itself (look for the eyed and tail especially) and examine your snake to confirm all is good. If not, and you will notice this easily, give him about 24 hours to remove it on his own. Up your humidity, make sure you got a water bowl for soaking, and things to rub against on.

If it still won't come off, do not peel. Come back and we can help the rest of the way

    Re: New owner freaking!

Thanks! She is shedding! Got a Sterelite container, put a hole in the one end for her to go in and out of. I filled it with repti bark and moss. Took her hiding place out and put her in the "Shed Shack" container w/ lid on and put inside her terraium.
