You said the BP is part banana.. are you sure the black spots aren't the normal banana freckles? As they get older (ripen) they get more spots.

I've got a few pictures of my banana BP (Sunny) for you here. https://imgur.com/a/nOx6hxH

I’m not sure if anyone else said it, but you should have hygrometers throughout the tank. With your hygrometer being in the warm area, it could give falsely low humidity readings, making you feel the need to mist often, and making your tank much more humid thank it should be which can lead to mold, fungi, and respiratory problems.

Re: New BP has become lethargic, has black gunk in nose

Very happy to help and super happy to hear your update that he is okay!! Maybe the black gunk is something he stuck his snoot into or something? But send another update if the vet gives you some info, in case that ever happens to mine! Lol I'm always paranoid she's going to get sick with something.

Well it might stress him out a LITTLE at first as he'll be like "Where the heck did my bed go", but then he'll realize the new hides are much better and should acclimate to them very quickly! And you can always switch them back out if he doesn't seem to like them. I'd say give him a couple days and he should adjust fine

Yeah, I was worried about the feeding thing too at first because of all these things I've read that make it seem like some crime, but honestly I think it can be actually very good for some BPs AND their owners. Everything comes down to the individual I think, so feel free to give it a try a couple times and see if he responds well. The 30 min rule seems perfect for mine, after that, the prey is fully down her belly and she'll usually start poking her head out to let me know she's ready to go bundle up in her hide and digest all comfy and cozy Also keep in mind that eating habits/behaviors might start to change a little if he is actually going into a shed cycle anyways.

    Good luck!!

I bought some plastic ones from Petsmart but I worried about changing too many things in his enclosure too frequently and stressing him out, so I haven't made the switch yet. I jumped on the Sphagnum moss idea right away though and added that in.

Thank you for the ideas on feeding - separate container feeding is something else I was thinking about, but again, was worried about stressing him out... I like your method of letting them sit in the container for 30 min before returning them.

I have a vet appointment for him this afternoon and may do a complete change of his enclosure set up when we return.
