Glad to help. I’ve done several diy cages over the years. They may not have always been pretty, but they were functional and secure.

I realize after all is said and done. A project of this size will probably put me at or over what a pvc enclosure would have cost but... It’s mine I made it and I made it suitable for the animal in it. That is a really gratifying feeling for me. It’s also fun for me my fiancée and kids to get into it.

I wouldn’t be so sure that it will cost you the same as pvc. The stand/frame can be as simple or extravagant as you want, but a simplistic design can be made to include a top and latches for a reasonable price, especially if the stand is pine. Pine 2x4’s and shelving are reasonably inexpensive and more than sturdy enough for this type of project. You can use an open shelf layout to save money, or an enclosed cabinet if you want hidden storage.

The closest to your tank dimensions I could find was AP’s T25 (72L x 30W x 18H) for $399 on sale. You can purchase your $25 tank and make a killer stand for much less than that, in my opinion. The rhp, uth (if needed) and thermostat(s) are going to be additional expenses for either setup, so I wouldn’t include those costs for your cage setup alone. As for controlling temp and humidity in a tank, yes it takes extra tweaking, but it can be done. Most of us that have been keeping snakes for many years either used tanks or built wooden enclosures. Just because it’s considered old school doesn’t mean it won’t work.

As a side note, even with pvc you will still need a stand.

Hots are incredibly cool but just not for me. Although I have removed a few rattlesnakes from our river lots. It’s not something I would deal with on a daily basis.
