Lol the rat is frozen, I like to thaw them out next to the che. Gets him interested in the rat. As far as the plants, my substrate is a 2" layer of hydro balls with a layer of coco fiber on top. I have pothos plants, two different types of ivy, and one other thing I cant remem6the name of off th top of my head. The ivy's are doing the best, learned the hard way that putting the pothos tight under the heat bulb was a bad idea. I am getting ready to move him into his permanent tank, which will be a planted paludarium. I'll post pics when I eventually get it up and running.
