    Reptile Basics 2x3 set up

So I purchased a used reptile basics setup with a herpstat 1 and I bought new heat tape and put it all together and have been trying to make sure it all works. Everything seems to be in order but the ambient temperature is not getting above 70. When I check it with laser temp gun the floor over the heat tape is 90 but after a couple hours nothing seems to be going on...... what am I missing?

The room where your setup is in, is too cold.
The heat tape cannot and will not heat up the ambient air.
You need to heat up the room or provide heat with a heat panel or ceramic heat emitter .

Re: Reptile Basics 2x3 set up

I have a couple of the Reptile Basics cages as well, but the only one that doesn’t need a radiant heat panel is the one housing my cornsnake. The rest of my animals need minimum 80F ambient temps, heat pads alone won’t get that. If you don’t add an alternate heat source for ambient temps, then you would need to increase the heat for the whole room.
