    Man's "best friend"?

After a bad day, we can always come home to a great reception from our dogs, right? So how bad or unlucky do you have to be for your own dog to shoot you?

I don't believe that story. It was probably a negligent discharge and they blamed the poor dog.

I guess we'll never know for sure, the dog won't talk.

    Re: Man's "best friend"?

I hate to say it but I can see this happening if the gun wasn’t properly secured or cleared. In many areas around here you are not permitted to carry a loaded long gun, only adding ammunition when you have reached your hunting station. This is to prevent accidental discharge from dropping or snagging the trigger on something.

A few years ago my other half was visiting a buddy of ours and had put his handgun on the nightstand while he showered. When he came back into the bedroom, he discovered that our buddy’s german shepherd had gotten the gun (a Glock) and brought it onto the bed where she commenced to chewing on it. There are still tooth marks on the grip. Had she chewed on it from a different angle than she had, her teeth were definitely long enough to engage the trigger. That could have been very ugly indeed. It wasn’t something any of us, including her owner, would have ever thought of in a million years. Everything small enough to chew, including our handguns, went into drawers after that.
