    Tough rat pups

Dinner time today for Mamba. They didnt have bigger rat pups today so I got 2 smaller ones with eyes still closed. Man these things wouldnt die!! First one I guess he thought it was dead, so he started trying to eat it and sucker came to life! So he wrapped him back up and took a while for it to finally die. Then the second one just wouldn't die either. I didnt time it, but seemed like forever. Never took this long before on bigger rat pups with eyes open already. Reminded me of that rat commercial where it starts bench pressing the rat trap

FYI, both mice & rats with eyes still closed require very little oxygen to stay alive...I suspect this is a survival adaptation, since the moms have such big
litters & sometimes the babies are set aside without being cleaned up (w/o the afterbirth & membranes removed) when they are born too fast. They can
appear dead & blue for quite some time & still be revived...I know because I breed rodents & have cleaned up & then given "CPR" to forgotten pinkies to
maximize litters. It's amazing since mouse pinkies are so tiny- I literally do rapid chest compressions with my fingertip & it usually works.
