    Back Into Corns

I bred Corns about 8 years ago, and this year decided to get back into them. So I got a pair of adult Albino Corns. This season I witnessed 6 positive locks, and the female laid 9 eggs today. My question is due to me not having an incubator, what are the absolute minnumum and maximum temps that I can incubate at. I know that ideally I should incubate at about 30 centigrade. Also, what would the effect be of the temps fluctuating betwen about 27 and 31 centigrade, other than that they would take about 10 or so days extra to hatch.

    Re: Back Into Corns

An update, the eggs are on day 56 today, and looking like they are going to burst. I came home from work today and found thatvthe female had laid a second clutch. 8 eggs of which 5 were outright slugs. I kept the 3 viable eggs and have put them in the dame tub as the first eggs. I can't believe that the first eggs were so small, when you see the diffrrenve thst 56 dsyd makes.

    Re: Back Into Corns

I had even forgotten that I had made this post. Only 2 of the eggs hatched. So I am sad. But will get a proper incubator for this season.

You could have helped to stabilize the incubation temperatures just by keeping the eggs in a styro-foam shipping box. When I lived in the desert (S. Calif.) I didn't
use a lot of A/C (set home thermostat to about 82*) and had no trouble incubating & successfully hatching out corn & other rat & king snake eggs in summer- did
not use an incubator at all, just planted eggs in damp vermiculite, covered (sealed) with plastic wrap, with a couple pin-holes in the plastic to "breathe", & "sheltered"
the egg boxes in styro-foam shipping boxes. Better luck next time, 2 is better than none.

Sorry to hear you didn't have more luck but at least you got the 2 lil hatchlings, congrats. Sorry I missed the thread originally.
When I had corn eggs, I had put my male and female together in a tub for about 10 min when cleaning, so I wasn't expecting them, she laid them in her hide. I simply added moss all around it in the hide and left them in the cage with her. So the temps they had were my corn's tank temps (in a glass aquarium at that time). She had 9 eggs and 7 hatched. The two that didn't make it were the ones on the bottom, on/surrounded by the moss. I kept wetting the moss to try to keep the humidity up and when I opened the eggs it appeared the two babies had drowned in the eggs (they were plumper than the other eggs as well). So my thoughts, lookin at your photos, is the eggs may have gotten too much moisture from the substrate.
I wish you luck if you try again!
