    Buttercup progression

I've had Buttercup 3 years now, purchased him as a hatchling in 2015. He's my confirmed mouse eater. No luck changing him over to rats so far, but he usually eats 2-3 mice per meal. He's 509 grams, so still on the small side.

Orion is 3 years old as well and weighs in at 1080 grams, over twice the size. Buttercup and Belle are my dainty eaters.

He does look like a "Buttercup"- he brightens the room too. At least you don't have ALL "delicate eaters"...

Absolutely stunning Dianne! I was convinced that I had a mouser as well. Tried everything and almost gave up on rats until I tried scenting with dirty mouse bedding. It magically worked. My BP is still a picky eater but managed to take a small rat after 2 months of no interest. He’s about the same size as yours (535g) and I often wonder if that’s going to be his ‘forever’ size.

I’ve tried scenting as well, but have not tried mouse bedding. Might have to try that next. I plan on trying him on the weanling rats that I purchased for Selene and Sabrina. They aren’t a lot bigger than a large mouse, so I’m hoping to trick him into eating one. That said, he’s a good eater and rarely skips unless he’s in shed, so I can’t complain too much.

He’s beautiful, as far as being a mouser all my boys are. I use jumbos. It’s worked well for me so far. I capitalize on the time of year when they eat vs. winter when they seem to slow quite a bit. Beautiful looker you got there.

    He's a good looking boy.
They say the older the snake, the harder for them to switch. But I think you can do it Dianne, I believe in you!!

Evidently Buttercup just needed your support Ricky...he ate his first rat tonight. It was one of the weanling rats I bought for Selene and Sabrina, so just a bit bigger than the large mice he’s been getting. I hadn’t even scented this one, but he grabbed it anyway. He did look at it for a bit after he “killed” it, but did end up eating it. Yay!

Now if I can just get Artemis and Orion to eat.

Congratulations! Snakes can surely both frustrate & surprise us. One down, 2 to go.

Those 2 to go are giving me heartburn. I know they will eventually eat, but it is frustrating. Artemis has only lost 2 grams in the last two months. She has only given me urates since I got her, so I think it’s safe to say she had not fed recently with the prior owner either. Orion had fed on live about a week before his purchase, so I don’t think my initial weight on him was empty...I definitely got a present between the two weigh ins. He’s gone ftom 1129 on 10/29 to 1080 on 12/29, not huge but I’ll be happier when he eats.
