ROLL CALL: Who's attending New England Reptile Expo, January 6?

    So boys and girls, it's almost time for a new year to dawn. And with that comes a whole slew of shows to attend! So first up (for me) is the New England Reptile Expo in Manchester, NH on January 6. There are 2 categories to respond to;

    1) Will you be attending?
    2) If you are attending and are a vendor, what company are you and what will you be featuring?

My boys and I will also be taking a field trip later that day down the road to NERD (New England Reptile Distributors) for a looksie and tour. We'll be easy to spot. Just look for a father and two boys wide eyed with their jaws on the ground! Hope to see you there!

PS: Has anyone here been to NERD? Is it a worthwhile stop? Thanks

    How I wish I could go !!!!

Even though I would have to leave my purse at home, empty out all my pockets and sew them shut, tie my hands behind my back.

And afterwards get out of my clothes right inside the front door, wash them on hot with bleach and take a one hour long shower. Just to make sure not a single mite or whatever hitches a ride home.

Yeah, I'm not a bit paranoid or anything

I really would like to go to a good show, though, but it would be hard not to buy anything. I don't need any supplies right now and I sure don't need more animals. Although I can almost hear Deborah whispering to get a Leachie or Chewie

I may go to the expo. I've been away for the holidays, so thanks for the reminder!

I used to go to NERD regularly 15+ years ago. One time, Kevin and I hauled a beautiful Retic out of its cage onto the floor. It must have been close to 20 feet long, but I don't believe he does that often, and I don't know if he has anything that big these days. I haven't been there recently.

I wish, but like Zina I’d need to take nothing but my drivers license. I am a weak woman.

As it stands right now, I have definite plans to add one more bp once the weather clears for shipping....and I’m looking at a pastel mystic potion locally. I do not need another snake, I do not need another snake...but he’s sooooo pretty.
    Other Snakes:

    I'll be there...

...and yeah, N.E.R.D. is a great facility. I've only been once though. My Borneo Short Tail boy, Juice, came from there.

I'll be in @9:30AM (they let people in 30 minute early), and I will be out by 10AM. Not as many vendors show up in January. It will probably be relatively quiet.

    I was there this morning.
Sydney the laughing Kookaburra was on a roll. Jeremy the Fly River turtle seems to have slightly damaged the top of his shell somehow.

I suppose the storefront Zoo Creatures (open to the public) is worth a look if you have not been there before. There is an assortment of snakes/monitors/lizards/bugs available for purchase and they have a fish area, rodent area, and bird area in addition to the two reptile based areas. I'm pretty desensitized to to the Zoo Creatures storefront and I primarily go there to look at the stuff upstairs. The downstairs has a small assortment of overpriced ball pythons with basic morphs (saw a sub-adult Spider female for $300, and a sub-adult Het Pied female for $150), a few blood pythons, a few retics, and today there was a lot of iguana morphs in the 'Monitor' room. Some people were taking pictures of the adult Rhino iguana, but, I've played with him previously upstairs: so seeing him didn't even phase me. Of interest there were two Scolopendra gigantiea centipedes for sale: Huge buggers ($500/each). The largest one was already marked 'sold'.

If you want to get upstairs to the 'NERD' area where they keep the 'good stuff' (alligators, big monitors, cobras, adders, fancy ball python collection etc) the general public has to sign up for a tour. I don't know the schedule. Fair warning: If you go upstairs the monitors can smell pretty brutal since they like to 'ripen' their meat. Don't bring someone with a delicate stomach---and dress light: it is hot up there.

I think it's smart to take steps to keep mites out of your collection, Zina, and that's not paranoid at all.

Years ago, a bunch of snakes in a collection I'm aware of were killed by a mite-transmitted disease that a friend brought into the collection after spending a day at this very reptile expo (which could happen at any show, I'm sure). You really can't take it for granted, and it's best to be careful.
