This morning, he was all fine and greeted me at the front of the cage for petting and sat on my other arm like nothing happened.....proof that no matter how 'friendly' your snake is, when they smell food, their brain turns off lol. Kind of like me with bacon
Haha, so true. One of my friendliest snakes ever, one that can chill in my little kids laps, once bit my hand because I reached into the enclosure a bit too far with a heated thawed rat on the tongs! Apparently my thumb was a more attractive heat signature than the thawed rat, as she grabbed my thumb for a split second and instantly realized it was me and let go. She quickly recovered and grabbed the rat, but it made me realize that although she loves me, when there is rodents odor in the air, All bets are off!

Nice bruise! I have yet to be bitten by any of my snakes...do i even count as a real snake keeper?
Sonny did scare me pretty bad once though, was feeding him in the boaphile (fairly recently) and he got a bit over-zealous about ambushing the rat and came shooting out before i could really react. He didnt get me but it definitely caught me off guard.

Dang Sauzo. Glad to see it wasn't more serious. With the exception of colubrids, all the bites I've ever had have been food related. It sucks when it's a boa. I can't imagine getting tagged by a retic. lol

I'm glad it wasn't much worse. It's amazing how quick they are to realize that you aren't their normal prey.

They do love food. Happy you both are ok. I am always careful with Rainbow. She is no joke when it comes to food. At 12 feet now I think she would do some serous damage if she got me like this. She attacked a part of her new cage once because it smelled like quail still. She thrashed around trying to break it free or a few seconds before she realized it was not food. Happy it held fast or would have been a fight to free it from her. Very determined!
Happy you both are ok and again, pick up after yourself silly.

I've had food bites from boas and colubrids and it's a good thing they're small because it takes them a while to figure out that you are not food. I've had them let go and hit me again immediately. Retics at least figure out pretty quickly that you're not food.

Whoa,,,,
I'm surprised to see this, I'm glad it was a bite and release. Of our 4 snakes here the only one that hasn't bitten me is the royal.
These retics get pretty wound up for food. Typically Wallace is still "iffy" for touching a day, sometimes 2 after he eats.
I've not encountered any male, breeding behavior displayed by him which is nice.
Glad you came out of that OK!
