Tip for those who keep frozen snake food

So i lost power last night for about 4 hours which reminds me of a tip for those that dont know. If you are ever gone and lose power, you can set this up as an 'alarm'. Take a little deli cup and fill it with water. Put it in your freezer and let it freeze. Then lay a penny, screw or any object that is heavier than the water. Then put the frozen cup on the highest shelf in the freezer. If your freezer ever loses power and stuff thaws out and then the power comes back on and refreezes all while you arent home, you will know it happened because the object will be frozen at the bottom of the deli cup. Then you know you need to through everything out.

    Great tip, thanks for sharing.

I use a half-filled Gatorade bottle, but obviously the same principal applies.

I also keep blocks of ice in Gatorade bottles and quart size takeout containers. In the event I lose power the more ice in there the colder it stays and won't defrost as quickly.

Oh, the deli cup with frozen water isnt to keep it cooler in the event of a power outage. It's there with the screw(in my case) on top of the frozen water so i know if my freezer loses power or fails when I'm not home. That way i will know it thawed out the rodents because the screw will not be on top of the frozen water in the deli cup, it will be sunk in the bottom, either refrozen or in liquid state.

I do know what you mean though about filling up as much of the open space in the freezer with frozen stuff so that the freezer doesnt have to run as much and in the case of an outage, it will take longer to thaw. My power was out for just over 4 hours and when it came back on, i opened my freezer to check and everything including the deli cup was still frozen solid.

I should have been more clear. I use a Gatorade bottle and a penny to know if the stuff defrosted.
Same principal as the deli cup, just a different container.
