It's very real, no filters used either. :-) That's Harold and my daughter special ordered him for his colors from Kammerflage Kreations.

I wish! He eats his weight in gold (erm, worms and crickets)-- most expensive to feed critter we own, growing like a weed. Plastic would certainly be cheaper, but he's awfully cute and he *begs* to be let out of his enclosure when he sees people in the room.

Are they pretty tame? Like to be held?

I've never seen one with colors like that. Amazing! and perfectly festive!

Not to get off on a side topic too far on this thread, yes some are very very tame. My daughter did her homework and apparently Panther Chameleons are the most tame as well as some of the most colorful ones out there. We got Harold mail-order when was about 3 inches long and we started off with hand-feeding him, and still do the majority of the time (other than letting a few crickets loose in his enclosure for snacks). He sees us and he starts to "paw" at the door be let out. Sometimes he's moody and doesn't want to be held and will puff up and shake his head, so we don't push it. When he's being friendly though, he will walk all over our arms and head and shoulders, and when we put him down he will beg to be picked up again.

Chameleons are definitely not beginner or even intermediate critters to own. It was pricey to save up to buy all his stuff that he needs (UV lamp, basking lamp, mister system on a timer, careful temp/humidity monitoring). He requires a vareity of insects including crickets that are fed a special diet to "load" them with nutrients, and then they are dusted with either calcium (daily) or Vit D (once a week). Superworms are also a good food, mixed with crickets, and we supplement with hornworms as a treat. And boy did he eat when he was a baby!! He's slowing down but he's not fully grown yet. He's going to be a tough one to figure out how to care for if we go on vacation-- probably have to pay $$ and board him at the exotic vet clinic.

As far as color, as I said he was special selected for his color. My daughter had saved up for a very long time to buy him and his stuff. Harold is a fancy Ambilobe panther. Go here and see all the amazing colors! He's not even the fanciest they have!

I have always wanted a Chamaeleon!! Those might just tempt me to do that before getting some poison dart frogs
