    Strange ASF

So I have been breeding ASFs for about a year and a half and just recently found a weird thing going on.

I have short haired , long haired , and a combination of both.....Never noticed this before....

Pictured is one with long hair on the sides and short hair on the back.

That's really unusual... I've bred mice for years & had some fancy silkie & satins with long or short hair, but never was that (long hair) trait combined like that?

I found it really odd. Like I said there are long hair, short hair, and a few like the one pictured. I'm curious if anyone has seen this or know what might cause it.

I'd assume it's just a genetic defect. I guess you could selectively breed for mullets now... & start a whole new trend?

I probably would too, just out of curiosity.

I no longer sell fancy mice, mine are only feeders & breeders now, so I let the silky/satin genes go...they weren't as prolific. I like genetic diversity but some
quirks have a down-side; my mice are still in all colors but not the fancy hair-dos.

Good luck! Maybe something else will show up too?

    Re: Strange ASF

I’ve not seen this with mice, but I did have a hamster that was a cross between a short haired variety and a long haired variety. My guy, Bear, had short hair on the front half of his body and long hair on the rear half. It looked like he was wearing puffy pantaloons.

If hamsters were more social creatures, he'd have been teased off the playground! Sounds pretty cute though.

    Strange ASF

Thats a strange looking ASF period and i see the fur too. Maybe its the pic angle or that i cant see it good but that doesnt look like my ASF’s at all.. looks more like a Norway.
My ASF’s have very large eyes, pointed ears and a bit of a Alien like look.
Is that just a 3-4 week old maybe?
