Question about baby's strength
I am still kinda new to breeding and when I cut my eggs this morning I encountered something that I knew i eventually would encounter. I prodded a baby to make sure she was alive (assuming she for now since banana is in the clutch and it is a black pewter baby). The baby did not respond at all so I thought this beautiful, fully developed baby was stillborn, drowned or otherwise died. Her head was close to the top so i pulled its head out and up just enough to bonk it on its nose. I got a strong response from this (not dead yay!). She seems to be very weak though and can't lift her head. She just stares at me. I have never messed with a baby in the egg so I just don't know if the baby is fine or not.
Is there anything I can/should do to help out or is it just one of those things nature does and all I can do is wait for her to come out of her egg on her own and hope for the best? She isn't the best outcome in the clutch but she does look really amazing. I am probably over reacting and she will be just fine.

Re: Question about baby's strength
Let's see if this works. Also, she pulled her body out a bit on her own, it wasn't me, but that sharp bend in her neck may end up being a tough spot for her. It can straighten a bit but she likes to keep it bent.

NO matter what you do DO NOT pull the hatchling of it's egg (unless there is a twisted umbilicus) if there is none stop messing and staring (I will say this again the more you mess around the more chances things will go bad, hatchlings get started tangle themselves and eventually die), the animal will either make it or it will not, not all are meant to be.

Re: Question about baby's strength
Agreed with what was already stated. Sometimes you just have to accept that the hatchling isn't going to make it. Do not mess with it unless you know the umbilical cord is wrapped. It will either come out of the egg on it's own or it won't. I had a clutch of 5 where only one survived. Just happens sometimes. Also sounds like this one is kinked from your last post or are you saying it just has it's head tucked?

Re: Question about baby's strength
I need to make it clear that the only reason I messed with her is because she wasn't responding when I did my check for life after cutting her open. The other 7 eggs in the clutch are fine. The neck just behind the head is the only problem I see if it even is a issue. As soon as I got a response from her I put her back in the tub and left her alone. She just seemed really weak unlike the others I've seen in the past.

Re: Question about baby's strength
No nob or weird protruding bones around the neck. The only time she moved is when I poked her snoot. I'll check on her tonight when I get home from work. I understand and I am prepared for birth defects and a baby just not being able to survive... I just want to make sure I do everything that I can to give it a fighting chance.

Re: Question about baby's strength
I'd just put it back in the egg tub and see if it comes out on its own. Once it is completely out, it will be much easier to see if it is kinked or has any other issues.

Way too much messing with eggs, IMO...cutting early* & then interfering under the pretense of helping.
*had ANY of them pipped yet?

Re: Question about baby's strength
Well, I see why these forums are losing people. Nothing but negative comments and assumptions. Some people cut and some don't. It was day 56, 3 eggs had pipped and his one was the only one I messed with and only because she wasn't moving. I intend to give every baby the best possible chance of survival and that includes checking the unbiblical cord on a baby that doesn't seem to have any energy or strength. What you see in the pic is the only time I picked it up, and it was the same time I cut.
I asked advice bacause I haven't run into this before and get blasted by people who didn't even bother to read my post. Be civil to your fellow hobbiests people.
