    Ball Python Morphs

Is there morphs that tend to be more or less aggressive? I know in general ball pythons are not aggressive, but are there any morphs that tend to be. I have a male pied who I has never attempted a single strike. I am interested in getting another and would like to find a female with the same personality.

    Thanks,

I really don't think of them as aggressive. They strike at food or to defend themselves. They are not out to get you. Only exception is a male retic during breeding season. LOL JK.

Paint job does not determine personality and while BP are not prone to bite they are wild animals.

Anyone that has not been bit has not owned enough of then or not owned them for long enough.

    Re: Ball Python Morphs

I agree. Defensive and food driven. However, although I agree with Skyrivers, I want to add to his thought on striking at food or as a defense.

Sometimes they also strike because they are thinking/hoping for food.

My female Ghost BCI (Boa) is a total puppy dog. However, she loves food and thinks about it all the time. Early on in having her, she nailed me with what was, no doubt, a food strike. As soon as she realized I wasn’t a rat, she let go and let me pick her up.

I have her hook trained now. All my big snakes, or snakes that will be big, are hook trained.

It’s not a bad idea if you are nervous or timid as well.

If you want to know how to hook train. Just ask.

Additionally, temperament and tameness has to do with species, the individual animal, and how much time is spent gently working with that animal and building trust.

Don’t get me wrong. Some snakes are chill, handled or not. However, good idea to work with them regularly, especially when young and totally harmless, to earn trust and either tame them down or keep them tame.

I have NEVER had nor even seen a feisty Royal python but they do exist apparently... as mentioned they're more likely to be nervous/ anxious which translates to defensive behaviour OR simply very strong feeders that will strike when you open the viv door but are simply expecting a feed ..

My Enchi Lesser Het Orange Ghost baby girl is both a trash can and a hissy pissy missy. When she doesn't want to be messed with she makes it known, but otherwise she is fine. Eats anything put in front of her that was a rodent.

My other 2 are cool as a cucumber and have never snapped at anything but food.

    Best,

    Paul
