This little guy is becoming my favorite, really fast!
Today, I opened his tub to spot clean and to give him fresh water. He hears me undoing the strap and when I take the lid off he'd already come out of his cardboard tube. I know he wants a mouse so I get my tiny little hook I got for him and I let him smell it and I touch him, he already figured out there is no mouse, so I reach in to grab his water bowl and he shoots up my arm and rests in my shoulder and stays there.... I then continue to spot clean and walk to the bathroom to clean his bowl and give him fresh water all while he was on my shoulder. After that we had a really cool and positive handling session.
I really liked that! He knows I'm a harmless warm tree

Re: He arrived this morning. Meet Kenny, Morelia Bredli

    RickyNY,

Really nice to hear that you are bonding with Kenny.

It's pretty cool when you are able to keep different species, and if possible, different animals within different species, to get to know each ones own personality.

I am just starting to get to know Yafe (my carpet) and vice versa. He's awesome. He just got over that horrible RI he got from getting lost in shipment, so I need to go easy with him. He's doing great and eating normally, but I need to keep handling at a minimum for another month or so and let him get his strength and immune system back.

Anyway, in the limited time I've spent with him, he's a charmer. Inquisitive and curious, sweet, etc. He likes to explore and is not shy. Even in his tank, he spends 75% of his time in the open either on a branch or wedged between the wall of his tank and the hide. When I walk by, he's interested in what I am doing, more like my Boas than anyone else. I also really enjoy the way he wraps around my arm and holds on "just right." Not too tight, but not too gently either that I am afraid he's going to fall.

I think he's going to make a run for it with Behira and Feliz (my Boas) for favorite snake to handle.

Don't get me wrong, I love Shayna (my BP). She's beautiful and docile and the snake that got me back into reptile keeping big time. However, she is rather shy in nature and although she does well with being handled (totally non defensive and calm, etc), she does so in short bursts and it's evident that she would rather be in her tank. If it wasn't cruel, I'd tattoo a "bumper sticker" on her tail that says, "I'd Rather Be In My Hide."

The boas are another story. They seem to relish being out. Sometimes, they seem to resist coming out, as if they forgot where they are going, and are like, "hey, were are comfortable here." However, once out, happy time! They do not seem to get stressed (not saying they don't stress) and explore and chill, etc. Behira falls alseep on me 1/2 the time I take her out after exploring for a bit. Then, getting them back in their tanks is a chore, and they often try to come back out and say hi again. Shayna and the corn snakes, they shoot right for a hide! The boas, they usually come to the tank doors and watch me some more.

The corns are pretty cool too, but very different. They need a lot of support and are much more active. Docile as can be, but they don't hold on like a python or boid, and they tend to move a lot more. Of course, I've had corns before and I currently have corns on both ends of the spectrum. Figment is a total spaz most of the time and all over the place. He won't sit still. Again, docile as can be and curious. He makes a lot of people new to snakes nervous because he "darts" around, but seriously, he wouldn't hurt a fly (a mouse though, he would hurt a mouse). If you give him a chance to run around like mad, and then really support him well, he, sometimes, will calm down, for short bursts. However, in general, spaz city. Solana, the baby scaleless corn, I joke is half boa. Chill as can be. Curls up in your hand, and does some mild exploring. In my experience, most corns are somewhere in between.

Anyway, I rambled, but that's part of the fun of keeping different animals and different species; getting to know each and every one.

I'd be interested to see how you think Kenny compares to your other snakes, especially Darby (you have one Boa, correct? or am I missing someone?).

Yup, you got the right guy.
Thanks for the post Dakski, I've had the same experience as you. Kenny is curious about me and he's either sleeping in the open on a perch or he hears me and sticks his head out of his hide... he likes to watch me when I'm in the snake room. He's very fast and still doesn't like when I touch him, he runs up my shoulder. If I don't touch him, he just goes from one hand to the other or up my arm and down the other arm. I really like him... and same as you I think he's going to be my favorite to handle.
My royal got me back to keeping snakes and is my son's, but he's so different than the carpet and the boa... if I only had royals I would be missing out on a lot of cool behavior and awesome handling.
Darby finally chilled out when I handle him, he use to be nervous but not defensive, and he seemed scare of falling. But he's past that, now he's confident in my arms and I can wave my hand in front of him and he doesn't care...he's relaxed. He is also more relaxed around my kids as well. But Darby is almost 3 years old, so is hard to compare him to Kenny. Darby is smooth and moves slow, Kenny is fast and has not gotten used to handling... but again Kenny is just 4 month old. When he gets older he will be more calm, just like Darby.
What I have seen from other keepers on Youtube, Carpets come out to you when you open the door, Boas need to be pulled out of their enclosure. But both are a dream to handle once outside. Of course, they are individuals and some one here might have a boa than comes out when the door opens and a carpet that they need to wrestle out... but the majority is like I've seen on Youtube.

I wish you the best with Yafe, I know he'll continue to gain his strength and continue to trust you more. It will also be nice to see how Yafe and Kenny continue to grow and behave and to compare then to each other.

    Cheers
