Re: My Reptile Area is Complete

There is going to be some shuffling around in the reptile area.

We lost Kayla, one of our leopard geckos, earlier this month. It was sudden and sad.

We thought about adding another animal (my limit is 13), but realized that adding a new animal with new requirements, etc. would add a lot more work than Kayla was. With three LG's, it was easy. I would clean and feed at the same time and that was simple.

Further, freeing up a 3X2' in the 6X2' tower allows for a few things.

    1. Solana (corn) can move into Feliz's (dwarf BC) 4X2' above Figment (corn).

    2. I can take down the wall in the 6X2' that will have an empty space now and make it a full 6X2' for Feliz.

    3. Cleo and Carra, LG's, can live in 3X2's next to each other (with a wall dividing them).

I need to get drapes for Feliz's new 6X2' and Jeff (BI) above him, who's beneath Behira (BI). With his food response, I need one, but all the stores are closed now, so that will have to wait.

I seriously considered the idea of adding another animal, but I am trying to be disciplined and not take on more work right now. I am proud of myself for listening to reason and doing what's best for me and the animals I have.

I reserve the right to change my mind down the road, but right now, I am happy with my collection and want to be able to give everyone the attention, and space, they need.

Re: My Reptile Area is Complete

My reptile area is actually complete now, again.

Feliz (Dwarf BC) moved into his 6X2' life tank today. Solana (corn snake) moved into Feliz's old 4X2'. And Cleo (Leopard Gecko) moved down one 3X2' to another 3X2' next to Carra (also an LG).

Notice all the boas have drapes as they like to strike at the acrylic doors when they want food. I do not want them getting hurt.

Left side of Reptile Area. All 6X2's except bottom row is split into two 3X2's.

    Top to Bottom:

    Frank - BTS
    Behira - BI
    Jeff - BI
Feliz - Dwarf BC/Red Tail Boa
    Bottom Row Left/Right - Carra/Cleo

Right Side of Reptile Area - 4X2's on right, 2X1.5X2' for the Rhacodactylus on the far left.

Far left top/middle (bottom tank is for storage and as a stand) - Ferry - Chewie/Ezzy - Leachie

    Top to Bottom 4X2's

    Shayna - BP
    Yafe - Carpet Python
    Solana - Corn snake
    Figment - Corn Snake

    Total animals = 12!

I had thought of adding another animal, but right now, I am very happy with what I have and want everyone to have enough room and be happy.

So unless something changes, this should be it for a while folks.

Very nice setup Dave. I love the symmetry of your enclosures. I'm waiting for a couple of 4 footers so I can balance things out a little better in my room. Then I've got to start getting my 8 ft. enclosures.

Thank you! Cool on your pending setup. Hoping I never need an 8ft tank!

Nice but I'm way too short for that lol! I'm constantly debating if I'll add another layer to my stack or not. Have to wait and see, I was just on pricing everything out again, been stashing money in my savings account but not quite ready to spend yet.

I've just started exploring the world of reptile rooms/stacked tanks (we just added our fourth reptile to the family) and this is something for me to aspire to! Incredible!

LOL! I am 5'3" and change. I have to use a step stool for the top tanks. Frankly, the left side, with the two gecko tanks 1FT off the ground, means getting on my knees to clean. That's way worse than standing a step stool!

One of the cool things people often do not think about is that when you stack, your heating costs are incremental, not like adding a whole separate tank. Heat rises, so I have my cooler tanks on the bottom and my hottest tanks on the top. I know you are probably talking costs to spend on tanks, but it's still food for thought.

Congrats on the 4th reptile. I really appreciate the complement. I can't take too much credit, Jeff Ronne, the Boaphile, built the tanks. I just stacked them!

I really like stacking because of the heat savings (above comment) and the space savings. With all different size tanks, or non stackable tanks, there is no way we could have 12 reptiles, certainly the ones we have, in our house. Not enough room!

Re: My Reptile Area is Complete

Wow, yeah you've got an inch on me but pretty close. I'm on a stool for my top cages now and hate it but agree on the ground is far worse! That's why I'll spring for another pedestal. I have boaphiles also with the taller pedestal, planning to get the taller 8' cage then stack two more 421s on each side. I could go one higher on each with a stool, I just don't know that I want to. I might have to depending on how large my snakes get and with the bp I hadn't planned on though.

Glad to see that you didn’t place a Boa on the top stack, since they will get bigger down the road.

I was a dummy and put my most aggressive eater, Punch, an 8 ft Boa at the top of the stack. I need to get on the top step of a two step, step stool to tend to him. Many times when I open the door he comes flying out, nothing but jaws! I have fallen off of that step stool a few times. Being one of the oldest (age) members here, I don’t bounce like I used to.

I also did the same mistake with Olivia, the Olive Python and have her cage scrapping the ceiling as well on the other side of the room. She is extremely aggressive at all times within her cage. I’ve caught my head on the ceiling fan many times. I finally wised up and now turn off the fan when go into the room.

But when the 8 foot cages arrive I will move both snakes to a much safer level.

    Congrats on your finished room.
The one thing I found that you can count on about Balls is that they are consistent about their inconsistentcy.
