Sometimes you can't...snakes will be snakes, but for sure give them enough room in their enclosures & make sure to check for hazards, 'cause they have "nothing better
to do" than try to get out...& I really don't blame them. One thing you CAN do, IF using a screen top, is to re-make it with a double-screen...using the soft nylon screen
(like for window screens) on the INSIDE layer, and the heavier-gauge (sturdy but abrasive) wire screening as the outer layer. That way if (or when ) they rub & push
on it, they're less likely to do much damage to themselves. FYI, some KINDS of snakes are more restless & prone to this also (for example, bull snakes tend to push with
their noses, but not with the tops of their heads).

And btw, I've seen MUCH worse head rubs than your snake did.

Update, it was good for awhile, now it’s really bad. I’ll send pics in the morning, and I’m going to put some neosporin on it to hopefully help it heal(non-pain reliever). Anything else I should do?

To me this looks like burns.

I see you have a lamp on the screen. If that is metal screen, the metal could get really HOT under that light and if she touches that or stays to near it, she can quickly get burned.

To be sure, though, we need better and new photos. As close up as you can get while still getting a clear picture.

Also measure the temp of the metal lid once its heated up by the lid..

Re: What’s going on with her head??

Tanks to small as I know you said your upgrading.. you should make your hide simple and safe. Id get RBI hides from Reptile Basics. They are smooth and easily washable. Id use Paper towel, Craft Paper or Newspaper for substrate until you get this under control. Tanks with lids cause all kinds of problems. Humidity to Injury. The snake id guess is pushing. The tank so small there might not be enough gradient of temperature. Id look into a T8. (T10 is better) They are $200-$240 to your door.

That hide is for reptiles and have sharp edges inside that need sanding down. I work for Petco. That is not for fish.

All the designer hides from chain stores have always caused snakes problems. The RBI may not be pretty, but they are 100% safe. I’ll never use anything else myself.

I use those (from Reptile Basics) too, along with some much older ones that are smooth-molded hard plastic also (I think from Neodesha, way back when?).

Those "designer" hides often have larger doorways or higher 'ceilings' than snakes want also, besides the rough spots.

Ok, thanks! Would a 36x18x18 work? I found a regular terrarium with these dimensions that I thought looked nice. Would the extra 6 inches height help?

Depending on what you can spend Id go with a 4’ length. Really look into something without a screened lid also. They just aren’t good for snake Husbandry.
