Ratio of sexes in a single clutch
Hi! I’ve tried searching for this question/answer without any success, so I figured I’d ask it. I know with some reptile species, the sex of the babies is determined by the heat at which the eggs were incubated (leopard geckos come first to mind). Is this true for ball pythons? I’m especially curious about at this moment because of the 8 eggs my girl laid, 7 hatched (the runt has since died), and when I popped them, they all appear to be female. Now I am a newbie at “popping” snakes, but I feel mostly confident that I did it right and definitely, nothing like hemipenes popped out. Which leads me to my original question: what are the chances of an all (or at least mostly) female clutch? Thanks in advance!

Ratio of sexes in a single clutch
There is a 1:128 chance of getting all one sex.
(7 eggs, so 2 to the 7th power)

I have hatched all males clutch and all female clutches so it happens.
BP sex is not determined by temps.

Possible, yes. Given your "newbie" status then I would be very hesitant to claim they're all female without someone experienced double checking them. Do you have small males that you have successfully popped?

Agree with this. Have someone double check you here. Even the most experienced make mistakes and if your new, well your new at it. I would sex out of the egg and then the females again after first shed then again before sale just to be sure. Males only need be sexed one time. Started doing this after I held back a female, grew her out for two years only to pop him after a big fast during breeding season and find male parts. Check check and recheck supposedly females. You’ll have several weeks before they can go anyway. My clutches were generally divided pretty evenly.

Easiest way to get all females is to already have plans and need a male out of the clutch.....
I have had the ratios all over the place.

Haha that seems to work both ways!
