What is the best way to maintain humidity

My bp just underwent his first shed, it is coming off in patches, and i am sure it is due to humidity. Living in the dry climate of colorado i am having a difficult time even getting up to 40%. I was told to mist the glass, sticks, etc. this works only for half an hour or so, what else can I do to increase the humidity, a room humidifier possibly?

i have a similar set up for my baby ball. i have been using a wet towel on half of the top. it works great. i do open up the tank once a day to mist and let in lots of fresh air. i keep a hide with sphagnum moss in it, which i moisten daily, so if the humidity does drop a bit there is a nice place for him to go. if the snake does not shed completely you can soak them to assist the rest to come off. when you see their eyes go blue you can also give them a soak in water that is not too warm or too deep. a friend also relayed this trick for me when my new snake came home and shed incomplete right after. she said to put him in a moistened pillow case or snake bag over night. i used this trick and it worked like a charm. he seemed much more comfortable afterwards.

Yep I know how you feel, this can be frustrating! I have used wet paper towels, misting the hell out of the repti bark 2 times a day, i even have plastic wrap over 3/4 of the top, and a humid hide that I made out of a butter bowl and sphagnum moss. Still the humidity drops so fast! The snakes will not go in the humid hide to save their lives! I did find a humidifier online at petco for 20.00 I think i'm going to try that soon. One other thing is I have a 60gal sort of tall tank without a wire top. I just got it for my red tail. I'm going to try cypress mulch, and some live plants (vine), planted in sphagnum and using clay pots. Of course I will use some rid-a-mite on the plants and pots a fews days before moving her in. I hope this will help keep the humidity up. If not maybe I can keep them outside on my screened in patio. I live in South Florida and the humidity and heat is always higher the haities. I'm just not sure if it's a good idea and I would hate to come home and find them missing.

i'd cover about 90% of the top and do the room humidifier. try to keep the room around 60% and spray the enclosure during shed times.

I'll second that - we had our glass setups downstairs with a gas space heater which makes the room incredibly arid (~20%) - covering the screen with ConTac paper (clear) and opening up 3 corners worked amazingly well - did not need to humidify the room. Yep I likes my static

I know I sound like a broken record on this point but if you cover the lid with a wet/damp towel make sure you clean and dry it often - it's downright scary how fast mold and mildew will set in.
