What do you do with your snake sheds?

i made a thread to share some hatched and dried out BP eggs and was pleasantly surprised how some peeps keep them and find uses for old snake eggs. but not everyone breeds but everyone that has a snake will have snake sheds. so i wonder what everyone does w/ their snake sheds? me, for the most part i just throw them out. i keep a nice rolled up one now and then thinking imma do something kool w/ it later but i always end up forgetting about it and end up throwing it away.

so what do u do with your snake sheds? do u unfurl it and display it? do u use it for education and science? maybe u use it for art? have u ever wondered about it being edible?

Edit: lol... looks like a glitch made 3 threads! but let's keep this one b/c it has a poll.

Nothing as of now, I measure the skin if I can get it unrolled in one piece while its still wet because that is the one thing people ask me(those who don't own snakes) "How long is she?"
Other snake owners I just tell her weight and then they understand her size.

Idk, like I'm not really one who feels the need to keep the shed skin of my snakes.

I keep the first one from each new snake. I toss the rest. But I did keep Cosmo's last 2 so I could teach my neice about shedding and growth. She thought they were super cool.

Sausage casings! They make great sausage casings!

No, actually I toss the ones that are messed up, & save the nice, intact ones for "show & tells"....they are given away at that point & I save the next ones.

And FYI, in the past I discovered that a bag of them that I'd been saving for a while was being munched-upon by MOTHS! So if you save them, use a sealed
plastic bag they can't get into...

If I was keeping every shed of every animal I could be featured on an episode of hoarders.

    Trash is where they go.

That would be such an awesome episode though...

Though seriously folks, hoarders have a real problem! Along w/ other Humane Society volunteers, I once went thru the home of a hoarder
who left her estate to the H.S.- you have no idea how awful this disorder can be! Stuff piled everywhere, even bags of cigarette butts
from her previously-deceased husband that she just couldn't throw away...& of course, her pets pee'd & poo'd all over the house & there
were bugs (cockroaches) everywhere. We felt so sad that she (obviously one who loved animals & all) spent her last years this way...

Re: What do you do with your snake sheds?

I've kept every shed and the pile is getting to the point of the hoarders episodes before mentioned LOL

My nieces and nephews have recently expressed interest in them so I will be passing the sheds I was able to unwrap in one piece to them, the rest (sheds I couldn't unroll perfectly) will be discarded. There'll be more perfect sheds coming anyway.

I used to keep one here or there for fun, if it came out really nice and intact.

Now that I have a bunch of snakes, I would have a whole pile for no reason, so they go in the trash with the poop and old substrate.
