Odyn is going to the snake Doctor!
So Mr. Odyn has an appointment tomorrow for his eye cap.
So so when the first vet removed the origional one he didn't do a good job...at all! He left the rim around the outer eye. I wasn't in charge at this time at my other store so it wasn't my call, but I knew it was wrong.
So now...he has stuck eye caps....yes multiple! I thought maybe the first couple of shed would clear it. I was so wrong. My poor boy! Looking at his chart I can possible see 4 maybe five eye caps from his sheds. Damn it!
He he has always had an eye problem but ugh!

Re: Odyn is going to the snake Doctor!
Soooo that was not fun! His caps have fused with the outer eye and when she got a piece and slightly pulled it bled. Now he needs minor surgery to get them off. so back we go on the 28th. They have to sedate him, cut into the middle of the eye cap (not hitting the eye itself) and basically pull outward and off. Then he needs an antibiotic if it bleeds...which we already know will. She gor frustrated with me when she asked when i noticed it first and i said april. I have however been trying to avoid this by soaking, using qtips, dry towels, wet towels, rubber finger things ect. So that calmed her a little.
My poor little man!
He did weigh in at 818, listened to his heart which sounds awesome, and measured him. He is 37 in long.

SO sorry to hear this! Ugh, stuck eye caps can be such trouble! But otherwise he sure looks great, so "this too shall pass" I guess?

which exotic vet did u go to? the one time i needed a snake vet, i went to Dr. Tracy Bennett. it was for my Cat that came in w/ an RI, so it was pretty routine but we had a very good experience. they're still on Aurora but in North Seattle near the Oakwood Cinema, Burgermaster and The Little Amazon Pet Shop now.
is Odyn in a tank? do u still have plans on getting a T8 or other PVC enclosure? either way, i hope the surgery goes all well and it will be nice humidity and smooth sheds from here.
RIP Mamba

Odyn is In a 20L with a covered top. Humidity stays at 60-62 and I bump when I notice he is goi g into shed. He has full sheds always except that eye. I do want to get the AP cages for them still.

Soooo update:
he is listed as chronic eye disease. Dr. Dan went in to do surgery and realized the caps are fused and are now part of his cornea. Fun times. However, there is no infection in the eye. So for now there is nothing they want to do. Taking the eye caps would mean taking part of his cornea with it. They do not want to make it worse by adding trauma when he is otherwise completely healthy, eating normally, and acting like a happy ball python.
So so for now we watch each shed and re check him periodically.
When end they brought him out I picked him up and he just looked at me, laid his head down on my chest and immediately relaxed his body. He is my cuddly boy.
